The finalists of the World Car of the Year 2015 awards have been announced. Winners will be announced in a lavish ceremony at the New York International Motor Show, taking place in the Big Apple in early April 2015.
There are five categories. As well as the overall title, shortlisted cars will be vying for the World Luxury Car of the Year; World Performance Car of the Year; World Green Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year. The winners will share the stage with the successor to last year’s winner of the main title, the Audi A3.
Whichever winners may emerge, it is clear that such a prestigious title will boost their popularity and sales, whether on the new market or as used cars. Each one will be chosen for its winning credentials in areas such as performance, design, environmental impact and imagination.
Winners will be chosen by an expert panel of 75 automotive journalists. They have already voted to create a shortlist of finalists for each category. The World Car, World Luxury Car and Worlds Performance Car of the Year shortlists each contain ten impressive models.
The Green Car of the Year category works slightly differently; a smaller panel of green technology experts carry out an initial assessment to select five cars for the short-list, before the main group of judges have their say. The same process takes place for the World Car Design of the Year award, which is initially vetted by a team of design experts to reduce the contenders to just five hopefuls.
Here are the five shortlists, for our readers to see what they think. Results will be announced in April.
