At A Glance
Up until a few years ago, everyone was concerned with the highest fuel prices in decades and the sports car industry was desperately trying to make more fuel efficient engines that could power their beasts well, but could still be affordable to drive. That has changed significantly. If this year’s Geneva International Motor Show is any sign, we can expect to see beefier, hungrier engines pushing even more horses than before. The sports cars industry has never looked happier!
From Alfa Romeo’s chop top 4C Spider, to the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6, it’s all about bigger engines and more technology than you can think of in a car. Even sedans are being powered by more powerful engines this year so expect even better performance from sports cars. Here are some of the hottest cars you can expect this year!
Chevrolet Camaro
The Chevrolet Camaro has always been an iconic beast. We’ve all dreamed of owning the classic sibling of the Corvette, and drooled over the newer models every time we watched a new Transformers movie. It’s a crowd pleaser, a favorite of every sports car lover around. This year’s model starts from $24,500 and boasts a powerful V6 pushing 323 horsepower as standard. The best parts about the styling are still there, following in the footsteps of the classic muscle car we’ve all grown up wanting. It also comes in a soft-top model, as well as the regular coupe, and an SS model with a beefy V8. The top end model, the ZL1 boasts a 580bhp power plant that can make everyone shudder! The best part, it’s already available!
Cadillac CTS-V
The new Cadillac CTS-V might not be the most affordable on this list, but it definitely is one of the best cars of this year! While it might not be a true sports car, it comes standard with a supercharged, 556bhp, 6.2 liter V8, sports suspension and 4 wheel antilock brakes made specially by Brembo. It starts from $72,000 and the price quickly goes up with the options, but it is by far one of the most powerful and well-endowed beasts in this price range this year.
Mazda MX-5 Miata
The Miata MX-5 has always been a classic, ever since it was first introduced in 1989. The new 2015 offering has come closer to its roots with an average curb weight just shy of 2,500 pounds, making it one of the lightest sports cars available, if not the lightest. The interior and exterior have both been trimmed down to lower the curb weight, making the 2.0 liter, 167bhp engine perfect for it. It is what it is: a compact sports car built for great performance but not too demanding when driving around the city. The best part, it price starts from a little under $24,000 for the base Sport model.
